Every morning, the first thing I do after I wake up is use the bathroom. After I’m done relieving myself, I flush the toilet. I then walk to the sink and wash my hands. Then I walk to the kitchen to get a drink of water. After I fill my cup from our sink and drink the water, I keep the water running as I prepare my toothbrush. After I put the toothpaste on, I run it under the water for a half of second (I don’t even know why I do that. I was just told I’m supposed to). While the water is running, I brush my teeth. After brushing my teeth for two minutes, I rinse my toothbrush off from the water I haven’t turned off yet. Then I rinse my mouth out with the water. Since the water is still on, I cup my hands and fill it with water so I can get a nice cold shot of water on my face for a “wake-me-up” fix before I head out the house. After all that is done, I head out my house to start my morning at 7:30am. I don’t know the exact amount of water I used, but from 7:00am to 7:30 am, I had easily used up somewhere around 4 gallons of water…..without even thinking about it.

After watching FLOW: For Love Of Water, it broke my heart to know that children will be dying today because the lack of clean water. Villages will have to move because huge water corporations have drained the surrounding sources of water which leaves the village wells drained. That farmers in Colorado have lost there farms because all the water from the surrounding springs have been cut off by water corporations like Nestle. That I can pay $2 to buy water in a bottle while children in Africa have to walk 2 miles to get filthy water that can easily lead to death.
All of this has led me to ask the simple question of “what can I do”. Which has ultimately lead me to ask “what can I stop doing”?
